Our story
From a calling to a church family
Worcester Vineyard began with a sense of calling in the summer of 2005 — to plant something new in this cathedral city on the Severn, before our founders had even discovered the Vineyard movement. What started as a conviction became, over the following years, a search for the right family of churches to belong to.
That search led to West Suffolk Vineyard in Bury St Edmunds, where our founders relocated to train, serve, and be formally commissioned within the Vineyard movement. The church officially launched here in Worcester in the autumn of 2010 — five years after the first calling, and with a clear sense of who we were meant to be.
Since then, we've grown as a community that meets people where they are — exploring faith without pressure, worshipping together three Sundays a month, and finding practical ways to serve the city we call home, most visibly through Growbaby.

Worship, first
Vineyard has always been known for its worship — not as a performance to watch, but as a way of drawing near to God together. At Worcester Vineyard, that means unhurried sung worship, space for silence, and a conviction that how we worship shapes who we become.
We'd rather sing five songs slowly than ten songs quickly. Worship isn't the warm-up act before "the real content" — for us, it is the main event, because encountering God is the whole point of gathering.

The Kingdom, now
Jesus taught his followers to pray "your kingdom come, on earth as it is in heaven" — not as wishful thinking about the distant future, but as something that starts breaking in now, in ordinary moments.
That shapes how we pray: expectantly, for healing, provision and breakthrough, without pretending everything is already fixed. We live in the tension of "already, but not yet" — trusting God is at work in Worcester today, not just one day.

Everyone belongs
Most churches ask people to believe before they belong. We do it the other way round. You don't need the right theology, the right past, or the right Sunday-best clothes to be welcome here — just show up.
Belonging first means questions are safe, doubt is safe, and there's no invisible scoreboard tracking how "sorted" you look. Believing, for most people, grows slowly out of belonging — not the other way round.

Naturally supernatural
We don't reserve ministry for people on a stage. Every follower of Jesus is given gifts by the Spirit — words of knowledge, healing, encouragement, practical service — and every gathering makes room for ordinary people to pray for each other.
"Naturally supernatural" is a very Vineyard phrase: it means we expect God to show up in the middle of normal life, prayed for by normal people, without hype or performance. Everybody gets to play a part.

Compassion & generosity
Generosity isn't a fundraising strategy for us — it's a core practice of following Jesus. That conviction is what built Growbaby: free baby clothes and equipment, no means test, because dignity shouldn't come with paperwork attached.
We give because we've been given to, not to look good doing it. Practical compassion, quietly done, for whoever in Worcester needs it — that's the whole model.

Family, not audience
A congregation can easily become a room full of people watching the same show. We're trying to build something different: a family where everyone has something to give, and something to receive.
That means Home Groups over anonymous seating, serving teams over spectating, and a culture where "how are you, really?" is a normal question to ask and answer. Church, for us, is something you belong to, not something you attend.
A Worcester Vineyard ministry
Free baby clothes and equipment for children up to age 5 — no means-testing, no questions about income, background or faith. Just support, for any family that needs it, run by volunteers who believe generosity shouldn't come with conditions attached.

Bookings and donations are coordinated through our Growbaby portal — a dedicated system separate from this site.

Unlike most churches, we don't gather every Sunday — we make space on the first Sunday of the month for rest, family time, and serving in other local churches and communities.

What should I wear?
Come as you are — there's no dress code. Most people wear what they'd wear on any relaxed Sunday.
Is there anything for kids?
Yes — children are warmly welcomed, with age-appropriate provision running alongside the main gathering.
Do I need to book?
No booking needed — just turn up from 10:15am for refreshments before we start at 10:30am.
